He has a long history of involvement and influence with Commonwealth and State Governments. It has also designed and implemented successful change management and education programs for government.
An Active Community
Australians are amongst the most active publics in the world,
particularly when an issue starts to threaten the way that they conduct
their lives. Any organisation that operates within the public domain is
accountable to the Australian public, whether it be at a local level or
nationally.
When a community becomes active, the first places its representatives
go to voice their opinion are the local council, offices of State Members
of Parliament and regulatory groups such as the EPA. If an organisation
does not have an existing relationship with its local council and relevant
MPs, it runs the risk of coming under fire from a public unhappy
with the organisation's operations.
If an organisation plans to undertake a project that it
feels may cause some concern in the community, it is integral that it
consults government, as well as the community, prior to its commencement.
Policy
Governments set policy which determine the parameters within which
Australian industry operates. It is advantageous for an organisation to
have a voice when politicians choose to legislate in a way that may
effect its operations, whether the effect be a positive or negative one.
Without contacting government representatives regularly and through
the correct channels, an organisation runs the risk of not being
consulted on a policy until it is too late. Worse still, the government
(and /or its statutory authority) may become alienated by ineffective
communication.
Corporate Words' personnel lobby Ministers directly on behalf of
industry, either to change government policy or, to promote new industry
programs and ideas.
Government Structure
When communicating with government, it is vital that industry
understands the workings of the three arms of Australia’s government:
-
Federal
-
State
-
Local Council
Also, the factional nature of political parties and the effects that
cross-factional relationships and government advisors have on policy
setting.
Corporate Words understands government. We have worked for government
and its instrumentalities on areas of public information and education,
and we advise clients on how to deal with and understand government, its
laws and regulations.
Issues Management
Government relations is also vital in the areas of issues and crisis
management. In many cases - such as industry restructure, downsizing or
closure - government policy plays a major part and must be taken into
account.
