RISK COMMUNICATION

How to manage and minimize risk is now a major component of a successful business or organization.

The current legal and moral safety requirements to meet adverse incidents or crisis, be they accidental, or as the result of a deliberate act, means there must be adequate safeguards in place.

Clear, concise and effective communication is the key.

ISSUES & CRISIS COMMUNICATION MANUALS

Corporate Words has developed an ‘Issues and Crisis Management Communication Manual’ for major buildings and have completed ones for two of Melbourne’s premier buildings and the Victorian Parliament House.

These manuals are based on similar models we have developed for clients in the chemical industry.

Although each manual is tailored to a particular site, their modus operandi and structure remain the same. They can also be adapted for factories, schools, hospitals and government facilities.

The manuals are divided into two main sections – an introductory part that explains the basic principles of effective Issues and Crisis communication management and the Response Plans, which can cover more than 40 different scenarios. The first section is divided into four chapters:

• Preparation - explains the methodology behind the workings of the manual, how to form a Control Centre, identifies stakeholders and sets media protocols.
• Determination – how to determine the severity of a situation.
• Response – provides agendas of a Crisis Management Team.
• Recovery – this aids in the return to normal operations by offering areas to analyse in terms of damage control and reputation management.

The main section of the manual lists the Response Plans.

Each is designed as a stand-alone document and provide step-by-step procedures to follow in a crisis or incident. They are also cross-referenced.
